Understanding PR

I often get people who would ask me what course I'm studying and as soon as i say Public Relations, their eyebrows raise and criticism starts. all I'll hear will be why PR? What is that ? Why didn't u do Law or Medicine?
Then i think to myself ,can these people hear themselves? Do they know what PR is? Well I'll tell them what PR is.

Public Relations is a field that looks to create positive relations between a business and its clients. Many jobs opportunities exist in the field if PR, which includes the gathering of facts and data to keep track of public concerns and current trends affecting consumers, creating promotional events to gain awareness and support of a specific product or client and collecting data for press release that will promote an awareness.

The business world can be extremely competitive companies typically want to have something that makes them stand out from the crowd, something that makes them more appealing and interesting to the members of the public and  media. A favourable image can help increasee a company's sales and negative publicity can damage a company's reputation and decrease sales. Public Relations can consumers and the media a better understanding of how a company works.

Many people have the perception of PR as a way to "spin" news and information, which means to portray the news and information in the best possible way for the company. Public Relations is not as boring as it sounds or as people put it out to be. If people can shift from negativity and look at public relations in a more broader way they will realise how fun and interesting PR is.

That's it from a PRP in the making!
